The Prime Minister has a salary of £143,462. I wonder if she has dreams of promotion to one day becoming Chief Executive of Hammersmith and Fulham Council. His annual salary is £202,421.
Back in 2012 the then Labour opposition leader Cllr Stephen Cowan condemned money being “squandered” in our “tiny borough” on “some of the highest paid bureaucrats in the United Kingdom”. At least at that time, the financial year 2012/13, the cost of the Chief Executive salary was split between our “tiny” borough and Kensington and Chelsea. The current arrangement costs the Council Taxpayers of Hammersmith and Fulham an extra £69,000 for that one post.
When Cllr Cowan made his indignant complaint about fat cat pay there were nine council officers earning over £100,000 a year.
As council leader Cllr Cowan has certainly made a difference. Hammersmith and Fulham Council now employs 23 staff earning more than £100,000 a year. They include the “Chief Information Officer”, who has the remit to complain about austerity, and the “Director for Delivery and Value”.
