Flyunder Question Time & Exhibition

Renowned broadcaster John Humphrys is chairing a special Question Time style event on the Hammersmith Flyunder. The Hammersmith resident and award-winning presenter of Radio 4’s Today programme and Mastermind will oversee a panel, made up of members from Transport for London, specialist tunnelling engineers and Hammersmith and Fulham Council, at 7.00pm on Thursday, June 18 at the newly refurbished Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.

The event is being organised by West London Link, a group of local architects supported by the HammersmithLondon Business Improvement District (BID), who were responsible for the idea of tunnelling the A4 – a project now being supported by Transport for London, the Mayor of London and Hammersmith and Fulham Council. Organised as part of the London Festival of Architecture, the event seeks to examine how Hammersmith would change without the flyover and what the alternatives could be.

An exhibition showing the group’s contribution to date as well as thoughts on the future will be featured in a pop-up gallery in Kings Mall from 12noon – 6pm on June 11 – 13. This will also be displayed at the Lyric Theatre from 5.30pm on June 18. A drinks reception will follow the Question Time event.

Exhibiting images will show Hammersmith: Past, Present and Future and will raise some provocative questions about the future of the town centre.

The Flyunder project will potentially have huge implications for the future of Hammersmith which is why we are encouraging local children to be actively involved in the future of their city by learning about urban design through workshops, which took place during the May half-term. Their work will be exhibited alongside West London Link Design’s at the pop-up gallery in Kings Mall. The exhibition will take place during HF Artsfest, which runs from June 8 – 14.

Tickets for the Flyunder debate cost £5 and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets can be bought online at http://www.lyric.co.uk or by contacting the Lyric Box Office on 020 8741 6850.
